Yy is for Yummy and Yucky

Recently we talked about farms and grocery stores.  This week we talked about what is yummy or yucky.  For example, spoiled or rotten food is yucky, but fresh food is yummy.

In one book we read, called Gregory the Terrible Eater, by Mitchell Sharmat, Gregory wanted to eat people food that we consider to be yummy.  His parents wanted him to eat like a goat and eat food like a boot or a coat, which they considered to be yummy.

In another book we read, called What Food is This? by Rosmarie Hausherr, we looked at many examples of yummy food and where they came from before going to the grocery store.

Besides talking and reading about "yummy and yucky" we also listened to a song with graphics on You Tube, called: "On Top of Spaghetti".

For art, we made a spaghetti and meatball collage.  Again, like last week's art, this week, the children had to follow directions.  The glue we used was school glue, which isn't very strong.  I was afraid that the yarn would fall off, so we dunked the yarn into glue.  Here are some photos of our art process:

We used a tool called a spreader.  It's like a plastic paint brush that they used to spread the glue around.

One of the classes is no longer being assessed, so we practiced cutting with "silly scissors" (peaking scissors).

My sword!!!

This week's weather has been GORGEOUS!!!  Hello spring - we have been waiting for you...yes, I know spring doesn't officially start until March 20th, but my tree in the front yard says otherwise and is blooming.

The boys were teaching my daughter how to hit off of a tee.

Here is a snap shot of "Library Time".  After we play outside, the children wash their hands and look at books.  After they've looked at some books, I read a story that matches our theme.

On Fridays, we've been doing science.  We finished the science kits as a group, so the children are exploring them on their own and with partners:

We had some extra time to play instruments in a couple of classes!

Next week, we get to have guest speakers come in to the classrooms and talk about their jobs or hobbies.
