Season trees, food trees, home trees, shade trees - children love trees. One of my most favorite books - The Giving Tree was read to your children in both classes. Although the K-Prep class is the class that touches on the themes more, we do discuss the themes in both classes.
Most of the pictures we took are of our art time. We have been rotating in some small groups and because of that, our time is short for art time (that will change - it's not working). We didn't get to finish our craft. I traced the children's arm and hand on brown construction paper, cut it out, and the children tore small pieces of green construction paper. We will finish our craft this week by gluing down the paper arm and hand and the small green pieces of paper to make a tree. Then they'll finish it off by dipping their pinky in red paint and putting red apples in the tree. Tearing paper had to be taught and many times I had to do hand over hand. The children wanted to pull the paper in opposite directions and use their whole fist. I showed them how to hold the paper with their pincher fingers and to rip dooooowwwwwnnnnnnn.
Because of the complexity of paper ripping for my k-preppers, I decided to do something different for my preschool class. Later in the year, we will address paper ripping when their fine motor skills are more fine tuned. We finished our finger painting unit with blue and red to make purple.
I love it when children discover that they can make lines in the fingerpaint!
Here we are - after school - prepping and getting new toys ready to be played with:
This coming week is a split theme - singing and sharing. We will also be having a field trip to the Pennypickle museum to discover and explore!
