Ff is for Flag

For the week of February 24-28, we talked about the letter Ff, the number 18, and flags.  There's flags all around us representing many things from countries, to states, to football teams.  It's fun to look at the many flags in the world.

The Preschool class is listening to and learning new songs.

Circle time in the Preschool class.  Quick splash of the letter of the week along with the number of the week, and rhyming.

Library time is back to the family room area, because the children can find their books more easily and can spread out and lean against a wall.

Smile, Miss Esther :).  Here, we're reading a new story from our Bob books.  The greatest thing I ever did was teach phonics through these books with my donated overhead projectors!!  Nothing puts letters sounds into better context than through words that make a cute story.

For drama, we not only talk about the story and act it out, but we also color and add the missing piece to the scene.  We've discovered that the children want to rush through it to get to the next project.  I noticed that a lot in kindergarten classes.  We will be working with the children to not rush and "scribble-scrabble", but to take the time and do their best work.  They were told to sit and wait until the timer went off, before they could move on to another activity.  They saw friends, who took the time to do great work, get to get up first and start the next activity.  This is a tough lesson.  It's tough love.  I know that they will learn that they have to do good work that isn't rushed through in order to get what they want.

For art, we made the American flag.  Of course it's not going to be perfect.  It won't have 13 red and white stripes - more like 4 each.  It also won't have pure white stars in the amount of 50.  Next week, we'll apply the stickers as a center, which works the fingers.  We discussed patterns.  We will dive more into patterns in the weeks coming up.

The K-Prep class practiced either tracing their name or tracing kindergarten site words.

In the month coming up, we will learn the letter Ee, review past letters and numbers, talk about St. Patrick's Day, and learn about the letter Ll.  Then we'll go on our two week vacation!
