Ww is for Wind

In both classes, the children have heard of the story -"The Three Little Pigs".  In the story, the big bad Wolf blows down houses using his breath.  We talked about that compared to the wind and what it can do.

Besides our theme of "Wind", we also celebrated Valentines Day, since it was on a Friday when we didn't have class.

The children build the letter Ww:

 and write it:

One center was to take a strip of paper and form a heart.  This is a great fine motor skill activity.  After the first heart ring is taped, they thread another strip through and form it into a heart.  We - the teachers did the taping, because the lesson isn't on taping - it's on forming the heart.

While the children had their hearts taped up, the others free played with a group of toys.

The children are pretending to be a mailman or mail-woman by delivering their Valentine cards into their friends' mailboxes. 

During snack time, the children enjoy some donated treats by some parents - Thank You!

To stay on target with our theme, we played with the wind with plastic bags and a parachute:

Trying to learn how to spread out, use the parachute, and let go.  The children needed to hold on the parachute and on the count of three, lift it up in the air, and let it go.  This was a lesson on the wind, using our bodies to make things happen, coordination, and also on following directions.

In this lesson, the children needed to hold on to the parachute as we ducked down, while putting the parachute behind our head.  Too many children wanted to run in the middle.  We had to keep trying to get it right.  This was a lesson like I mentioned above, but we also talked about fairness.  It would be fair if we took turns to run in the middle, but it's not fair if you're following directions while others take advantage of the situation to have their own fun.

We were pressed for time, so this class's craft was hurried.  We didn't have time to fold up the arms and legs like an accordion.

I'm not sure what's happening here.  I'm sure we are all engaged in what is going on.

I'm teaching this class how to make our heart-person.  I've turned my daughter's heart-person in to a puppet.  I did a cute voice and pretended to be that character.  The children eat that up!!  They look right at the heart-person and imagine it being totally real!

The M/W/F class gets a 4 day weekend (off on Friday and Monday and back on Tuesday) and then we'll learn about the letter Ff and flags.  The week after that is Kk for Kites.  I see a pattern.  Do you?
