This week our theme was "Oo is for Outer Space". I read books regarding outer space and we acted like we were in outer space:
They made twinkling stars in the night sky on the Lite Brite:
They made made outer space pictures by spraying a fine mist of white paint onto black paper. Then when it dried, they painted planets on top:
They ran around the back yard with the streamers and pretended to be rocket ships while the streamers were the rocket fuel:
While the licensing person went throughout my house and asked for my attention, I had my students do centers early. Here's the cool structure they built:
They were so well behaved when that lady was here!
Here's the letter I wrote to my parents regarding the three things she found and I got cited for:
"Here is what she found:
1) She found my husband's Menin Spead stick (deodorant) in the guest bathroom medicine cabinet, so I got cited for that. It says "keep out of reach of children" and my husband forgot to put it in the locked guest bedroom. My husband uses that bathroom to shower. That's also the bathroom that your children use. That medicine cabinet is pretty empty, because most things have that "keep out of reach of children" on them. I checked to make sure the soap they use doesn't have that statement.
2) Our kitchen has two gates preventing the children from entering, so my kitchen is off limits. The island of the kitchen butts up against the family room. I left two spray sun screen bottles on the island to spray my red-headed daughter with in this summer heat. According to her, it was within reach. They also have the "keep out of reach of children" on them.
3) On the kitchen island, I have a box of kleenex, a paper towel holder with a roll of paper towels, and a napkin holder with napkins that line the edge of the island facing the family room. Behind that stuff was some prescription medicine for my son in a child proof bottle as well as children's Tylenol and Motrin also in child-proof bottles. I thought they were out of reach from 3, 4, and 5 year olds.
I have corrected those three mistakes. It can be very challenging to mix this business with my home and I do apologize for making these mistakes. If anyone would like to come in and view where I had these items and to see what I tried describing above, you are more than welcome to look."
I think it's funny, because all of the kids I teach are predominantly stay-at-home kids and everyone has things in their medicine cabinet that says "keep out of reach of children" and other things around the house that are most likely not safe. However, since these kids are not my own and there is always that one kid who will eat the deodorant, spray sunscreen in his mouth, or try to get into found prescription bottles (none of my current students), that is why the rules are so strict.
Anyway, I have to inform the future parents for one year...
They learned how to write the letters "H" and "I". Aside from writing, they did other hands on activities like tracing in salt (you can't see it in this picture) and building the letters with playdo:
I opened up a new Monday, Wednesday, and Friday class, this week. I welcomed back my student from last year who is now a pre-ker. She spent time with her new sibling and now joined us for preschool :). I also welcomed some new students. Here they are playing:

Here are the morning and afternoon Friday classes painting at the easels. We have been doing science, but since my day was disrupted on Wednesday I wanted to do art, since the afternoon class didn't get to do art.

| She had so much fun painting, that she rubbed a hole in her paper, which didn't stop her from painting. I don't like to correct children on such minor details. How else will they learn about the amount of paint to use and how to paint, unless they experience it on their own? |
