Xx is for Xray

During the week of April 14-18, the children learned about the letter Xx and sound it makes at the end and middle of words /ks/.  When an x is in the beginning of words, it generally makes a /z/ sound.  We stayed away from that and focused on the sound found at the end of fox and in words like exit.

We are also counting in the 20's.  Our number for that week was 22.

Our theme was "X-Rays", so the books the children looked at were filled with x-rays of various kinds.

For our center time, I finally took out the puppets.  The problem I've had every year with puppets is how violent the children make their puppets.  The "puppets" hit each other, but in reality it's the children hitting each other's hands.  Now that the children have been with us for so long, we decided it was time to take them out.  We did not tolerate any violence.  Children who got carried away and got aggressive had to sit out and watch for a little bit.  Most of the children did a nice job.

For art, the children glued on Q-tip halves onto people cut-outs.  The Q-tips were supposed to represent bones.  We had to help the children reposition the "bones".  In essence it was a lesson on gluing and manipulating materials to fit in a "puzzle".

Enjoy the photos!
